SAMUEL JOHNSON.......THE SCULPTURE OF WORDS....



A Tribute to the "Man of Letter"
today is the 300th B'day of Samuel Johnson..who had gifted the first English Lexicograph to English language,he is consided to be the Doyan of English literature .he was born in Leach filed in England as the son of a book merchant..he could not complete his studies in Oxford because of financial dis ability ..later he migrated to London as a journalist ..and he wrote a social satire called "London" nd this became popular in the year 1749 he wrote he wrote "The Vanity of Human Wishes" and he also wrote prfaces to Shakesphears play re- publishings..all these granted him a place among literary society ..but his ever green monument is his Dictionary he started his endevour in the year 1747 and he took long 8 years to publish it and it was named as "A dictionary to English Language".and he had given meanings and explanations to 40,000 words in t anmd examples .his also got fame as his as his dictionary ..his friend James Bose well wrote his biography "Life ofSamuel Johnson" an dthis piece of work is considerd to be one of the greatest biographies ever made.and and 125 th year of Oxford English dictionery...He is as great to literature as Newton to Physics ...In the year 1928 the Oxford dictionery was published in ten volumes..and later on this got the destiny to the authorised voice of English language..
